Good Lawyers, Bad Products (AskTog via Tomalak) -- "More recently, lawyers are threatening to bring life to a permanent standstill. They are bogging down automotive and aviation GPS units with the same unread verbiage and OK buttons with which they have attacked software."

There are several things I'd like to see designed into vehicles and accessories in terms of usability:

Dashboard readouts on windshields. I know the technology exists for displaying the travelling speed on the windshield (through a somewhat transparent reflective sticker). Why not even GPS maps? Car manufacturers can take this opportunity to exploit this niche market of GPS enthusiasts.

Hands-free phone. The car-audio industry should cooperate to make a standard audio-in jack available on the front panel of their hardware to allow cell phones to connect easily to the car speakers. The calls won't be as private, but at least you won't get killed.

Brake lights on the front and back of vehicles. This makes defensive driving a whole lot easier 'cause it helps me anticipate what oncoming vehicles are doing.

Car doors with higher and rounder bottom corners so they won't scrape against unusually high sidewalks.
