Net's Jammed, and I'm Toast (Popular Science, March 2001) -- "What's the big deal about Internet reliability? When speedy Web access isn't always at the ready—the way the phone is, for example—we're far less inclined to use it for everyday jobs. At home, we still don't use the Web as our yellow pages or TV guide or recipe book, because it's too much hassle to reconnect or plod through some lazily served up Web pages. At work, we can't schedule downloads, uploads, Web backups, or e-mail transmissions for overnight processing because we never know when our Internet service will be down."
