01/11/2002 Entry: "11-Jan-2002 -- Correction: A Picture is Worth 84.1 Words"

Correction: A Picture is Worth 84.1 Words (via xplane) -- "Three empirical investigations suggest that the kinds of pictures used as visual programming languages do convey a predictable amount of information. This seems to be because people prefer diagrams drawn at a certain level of granularity, regardless of syntactic or semantic manipulations. A fourth study provides an alternative explanation - these results could arise from experimental demand factors. The conclusion is therefore more cautious than the title."
