WebWord Weblog Posting Posting Date: May 10, 2002 A Visual Rather Than Verbal Future (Washington Post) -- "With all due respect to fellow computing gurus around the world, the University of Maryland's Ben Shneiderman doesn't think speech will ever become the main way people communicate with computers. He's convinced our eyes will do better than our voices at helping us control the digital machinery of the 21st century."

I agree with this article. Another way to prove that speech is not the ideal way to communicate between user and computer is to sit someone you know (who is proficient with computers) in your seat in front of your computer, and instruct them (from behind) on how to do your work. You will soon realize how tedious this becomes. Posted by: Chi Lambda on May 11, 2002 12:17 AM
