Faucet Facets: A few best practices for designing multifaceted navigation systems (Adaptive Path) -- "Architectures based on faceted information are an interesting hybrid of search and navigation. Multifaceted is generally a good idea, but sometimes it makes it too easy for a user to winnow a search down to 0 results! I think good solution would have an entire category set (say, all dishwashers) pushed to the client, along with the matrix of how they rank...then every time a facet is selected, have a text box and button that says

Search has |013| Results [Show me these results]

an ideal solution would probably have to be graphical, with some wacky Venn diagram kind of things, but this wouldn't be too bad.
