The Eagle has Landed (Visual Journalism) -- "Just take it easy. Genius solutions are useless, if most of the readers canīt enjoy them properly. We canīt expect them to wait even ten minutes for the latest super-special-animated-interactive infographic. We can make information clearer, more simple and more useful for the reader right now using the tools of the internet." (Comments: Via Flazoom.)

1) It's interesting the author uses the term "infographic artist." I'm not suggesting infographics are not an art form, but so is web design. I would never call myself a "web site artist" because that label diminishes so many other aspects of the process.

2) I like the idea of Flash being used for infographics. Too often Flash designers create entire sites from Flash when there is no direct benefit from the "whole hog" approach. Infographics by definition serve to complement the understanding of text content. I do not mind Flash when it serves a clear user-oriented purpose.

3) I like that the author recognizes RAM as an issue with web site presentation. I've seen many old PCs with low RAM and/or slow processors. Graphics-intensive web sites are like hiking through knee-high mud.

4) Ahhh, "genius solutions" is another way of describing "totally unique, totally inappropriate, totally bloated use of Flash."
