Speeder Reader -- "The gas pedal determines how fast the words flash by. The steering wheel moves between various 'lanes' of words where each lane is a different story." (Mac comments: I spend a fair amount of time reading from my PDA, and I know there must be a better way. Why don't the manufacturers put some real effort into promoting 'new' ways of reading? )

First time I used a PC it was running MS DOS. I didn't like it so I decided to use computers as less as possible. When I used a Mac, less than one year later, I liked it and I liked it so much that I decided I'd try to find out more about what made it so different from the first PC I used.
My first handphone was a Sony. It's interface wasn't too bad. It wasn't very flexible and it alowed some mistakes but it was alright in the oveall (I thought). When I bought my first Nokia it was different from the interface I was used to, but I liked! It fairly flexible, reasonably fast and so well structured that it was extremely easy to learn (even my mother that is "alergic" to machines learned to use it).
What I want to say with this is that what makes people dislike something is not the simple fact that it's different from what they are used. It's because it's not better than what they already have. If you present to people something different but better they will certainly like it.
I know I am oversimplifying a little and there are lots of variables that may interfere but I think that we are still far from presenting people with alternative ways of reading that are better than the actual.
