WebWord Weblog Posting Posting Date: November 27, 2002 Users Begin to Demand Software Usability Tests (ComputerWorld) -- "Boeing requiring vendors to follow new usability standard for products" (Comments: Thanks MCW.)

Called the Common Industry Format for Usability Test Reports, the standard outlines a format for reporting test conditions and results and gives user companies enough information about a test to replicate it. It's a means for objectively evaluating software, say its backers. Objectively? No. Replicate? No. It's a report format, not a methodology! I hope this is a result of poor reporting, rather than misleading information. Still, CIF is very useful. Everyone should be using it, or something very close. It would be very interesting to ask half a dozen usability firms to evaluate a system using the CIF reoport format and then compare the results. Maybe the UPA would like to do it? Posted by: Mac on November 27, 2002 03:53 AM
