is warchalking dead?!?? (warchalking.org) -- "It has been about 2 months since I wrote the article. I've thought about warchalking a few times, and I still feel that the days of warchalking are limited. The buzz has died down, it is less of a grassroots movement, and it is being replaced by...ubiquity and conversion. By ubiquity, I mean that WiFi itself is becoming more and more mainstream. In some urban areas, it is almost hard *not* to be in a WiFi zone. Who needs the chalk, eh? By conversion, I mean that many kinds of devices are becoming wireless, which in turn drives companies to develop WiFi zones, which in turn drives down the need to find "hidden" or "secret" WiFi hotspots. By conversion I also mean that WiFi and other wireless protocols are starting to blur. This is the kind of thing I am talking about: Wanda (Bluetooth + WiFi + GSM). My summary is the same as before. Warchalking *was* a great idea, and it *was* important to build up momentum for WiFi, but it just isn't important any longer. If you disagree, or my logic is wrong, or my facts are wrong, I respect that." (Comments: To read this, you might have to scroll.)
