Word fanciers may enjoy reading Ella Minnow Pea. It's a collection of letters written by a girl living on an island where the town elders have begun banning the use of certain letters of the alphabet. It becomes a progressively interesting read. Keep a dictionary nearby.

BTW, I found that link by checking my trusty list of alternative bookstores... alternatives to B&N and Amazon anyhow.
