Shoots down the notion of knowledge work, the creative class, and a dozen other buzzwords.

Acutally, it doesn't shoot down the idea of knowledge workers so much as the idea of everyone working for a big company for their entire life.

There are opportunities for peopel with skills, but they need to go out and get them.

Would getting a common, commodity skill, qualify? Or does the type of skill matter, how it is applied, that it is applied, that the worker can develop innovative approaches?

The jobs which are not exportable are those which involve customer contact - consultants of all types (incl usability - cheer up, folks!), designers, builders, decorators, even hairdressers.

We could be looking at a future where hairdressers earn more than hardware designers, until 3rd world incomes catch up.
